HEATHCOTE

Heathcote Road was named after Captain Alfred Spencer Heathcote, who was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1857 for highly gallant, daring conduct and acts of valour.

The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest and most prestigious award for acts of bravery in wartime.

It is awarded to persons who, in the presence of the enemy, display the most conspicuous gallantry; a daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice: or extreme devotion to duty.

INFANTRY

Infantry Parade was named for the soldiers who fought on foot as part of a military unit, specialising in close-quarters combat. Infantry are the primary combat element in most armies, responsible for seeking out the enemy, seizing and holding ground, and engaging in close-quarters combat. Infantry soldiers are known for their physical and mental toughness, as well as their ability to operate in diverse and challenging environments.

HUON

Huon Crescent was named after the Huon Peninsula campaign fought from September 1943 to January 1944. It involved a series of battles in northeastern Papua New Guinea, primarily between Australian forces and the Japanese military. The campaign marked a decisive shift in control of the region, enabling the Allies to secure vital airfields and sea lanes, and set the stage for further operations in the Pacific theatre.

BARDIA

Bardia Parade was named in honour of the successful engagement of the 16th Brigade of the 6th Australian Division in the Battle of Bardia in 1941. It was the first battle of the war in which an Australian Army formation took part, the first to be commanded by an Australian general and the first to be planned by an Australian staff.
