Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

At Holsworthy High School, SRE is delivered one period per fortnight to Year 7 students who have chosen to undertake scripture.

The following SRE classes are offered at Holsworthy High School:

Christian SRE is provided by Southwest Scripture. More information about the Christian SRE program, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the following website http://whysre.com.au

Students participating in SRE will leave their normal classes and be located in a separate space and be supervised by representatives of the respective authorised provider.

SRE teachers at Holsworthy High School are appropriately authorized by their respective SRE provider according to the Department of Education Guidelines, have SRE accreditation training and have met all the relevant requirements under the Child Protection Act and Child Protection Regulations.

Given the small numbers of students that participate in SRE, during the time that SRE classes are being held, students not participating will remain in their classrooms with their class teachers and will participate in meaningful activities such as reading, private study, revision or completing homework.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE should be given to our front office, in writing.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
